Children in Scotland (CiS) has announced new dates for free training on supporting families to talk about money in a fun and friendly way.

“Talk, Learn, Do: Teaching Your Children About Money” will run weekly half-day interactive sessions throughout March and April, aimed at practitioners and volunteers, in any settings, who support families or engage with parents and carers of children aged 3 – 11 years old.

The Talk, Learn, Do (TLD) programme is an evidence-based programme designed to encourage parents and carers children aged 3 – 11 years old to talk about money. CiS understands that talking about money can be tricky; they have designed this programme to explore the issues that can arise and provide practical strategies for families to use.

Participants will take part in a half-day interactive webinar to explore activities which encourage parents and carers to teach their children about positive money habits, and discuss how to adapt the TLD resources to suit their families and settings. They will then deliver a TLD session to parents and carers at a time, pace and place which suits. Once this is completed, participants will be asked to complete a short participation survey for CiS.

CiS will provide participants with a toolkit complete with exercises and fun learning activities, and free resources for parents and carers to keep and use with their families.

Participants do not need experience in financial skills or delivering training – CiS will provide everything people need to deliver these activities, including skills for those with no training delivery experience, or finance experience, and new approaches for those who have already worked in the field.

At the initial training session, participants will meet a group of like-minded practitioners with whom they can discuss their plans and share experiences.
