Scrutiny of the Visitor Levy (Scotland) Bill: Deadline for Views

The deadline for submissions to the Call for Views, and the online conversation, on Scottish Parliament’s Scrutiny of the Visitor Levy (Scotland) Bill has been extended until Friday 15^th September.

The Bill allows local authorities to introduce a charge on overnight stays in some types of accommodation (for example, some holiday lets). The Bill is currently at Stage 1 of the parliamentary process, where views are gathered to help produce reports, before MSPs debate the Bill in the Chamber.

MSPs on Scottish Parliament’s Local Government, Housing and Planning Committee are looking at the details of the proposals, and want to know what people think about them. Knowing people’s views will help them think about ways that could improve the proposed law, and whether the draft Bill should be passed into law by the whole Parliament.

How to Get Involved

There are different ways to get involved and share your views on the Visitor Levy (Scotland) Bill.

• Call for Views (linked for your convenience): where people can submit a detailed response to the committee (includes the different questions and principles relating to the Bill)
• online conversation: where people can make brief and general comments on the Bill, and can rate and comment on the submitted ideas of others

Submitting feedback and views via these 2 channels will give the committee an indication of any issues relating to the proposed Bill, and whether people are in favour or not.
