Holocaust Memorial Day Commemorative Event
January 29 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pmFree
The Central Scotland Regional Equality Council (CSREC), along with various partners (including the Association of Jewish Refugees (AJR), Scottish Government, Interfaith Scotland and Falkirk Community Trust), are holding a free commemorative event for this year’s Holocaust Memorial Day, which marks the 75th anniversary of the closing of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp.
The event takes place next Wednesday 29th January, 7pm – 9pm at Falkirk Library, Hope Street, Falkirk, FK1 5AU, and will include the lighting of a memorial candle.
As part of Holocaust Memorial Day, the genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur are also remembered. As a result, the event attendees will be joined by a survivor of the Rwandan genocide to talk about their experience in the early 1990s, along with a survivor of the “Kindertransport” rescue operation.
Falkirk Council Leader, Cecil Meiklejohn, will also be in attendance to discuss the continuing fight against Antisemitism in Scotland today, and the importance of continuing to remember the Holocaust.
Kosher snacks and other refreshments will be available.
