SUMMARY:Holocaust Memorial Day Commemorative Event
DESCRIPTION:The Central Scotland Regional Equality Council (CSREC)\, along with various partners (including the Association of Jewish Refugees (AJR)\, Scottish Government\, Interfaith Scotland and Falkirk Community Trust)\, are holding a free commemorative event for this year’s Holocaust Memorial Day\, which marks the 75th anniversary of the closing of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. \nThe event takes place next Wednesday 29th January\, 7pm – 9pm at Falkirk Library\, Hope Street\, Falkirk\, FK1 5AU\, and will include the lighting of a memorial candle. \nAs part of Holocaust Memorial Day\, the genocides in Cambodia\, Rwanda\, Bosnia and Darfur are also remembered. As a result\, the event attendees will be joined by a survivor of the Rwandan genocide to talk about their experience in the early 1990s\, along with a survivor of the “Kindertransport” rescue operation. \nFalkirk Council Leader\, Cecil Meiklejohn\, will also be in attendance to discuss the continuing fight against Antisemitism in Scotland today\, and the importance of continuing to remember the Holocaust. \nKosher snacks and other refreshments will be available. \nTo book your place\, or for further information\, please visit the Eventbrite page. \nAlternatively\, contact CSREC by phone: 01324 610950\, or email: admin@csrec.org.uk
