First Step to Stand: Getting Women Into Local Politics
February 2 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Have you ever considered entering local politics? Do you want to make a change in your local community? Why not go along to First Step to Stand, a free event designed to encourage and inspire women to become councillors and community activists.
Taking place on Sunday 2 February 2025, 1pm – 3pm, at Falkirk Trinity Church (Manse Place, FK1 1JN), this is an opportunity to hear from women in local politics to discover if becoming a councillor is right for you and how to get there, whilst building a supportive community in the process.
Being a councillor is all about giving back to your community, bringing your energy and hard-working attitude, getting stuck in and making a real difference – to local people and to wider society. There are lots of different ways you can be involved in local democracy, and this workshop aims to demonstrate ways that are right for you.
This event is aimed specifically at women, as local councillors attempt to address a clear and evidenced phenomenon where women are underrepresented in local politics. Many women face similar barriers to participation and this session will look to explore those with the goal to give women the confidence that they too can come forward and be supported.
At the event, there will be refreshments and a children’s area with games, cartoons and adult supervision to minimise barriers of childcare.
