Consultation Deadline: Community Right to Buy Improvements
October 5, 2025
FreeScottish Government has launched a public consultation as part of a review of the Community Right to Buy, a key policy that has empowered rural, urban, and crofting communities to acquire land and other assets since its introduction in 2003.
Announced in the Programme for Government 2024–2025, the consultation aims to simplify existing processes and explore ways to enhance and strengthen community ownership across Scotland.
Scottish Government is seeking input on how these rights can be better supported to ensure more communities benefit from land and asset ownership.
The consultation paper sets out a range of options for improvement at various stages of the Community Right to Buy process. It invites views from people across Scotland, particularly those with direct experience of the process, whether as buyers, sellers, practitioners, or interested parties.
The deadline for responses is Sunday 5 October 2025.
To submit your response, or for further information, please visit the Scottish Government consultation hub (linked for your convenience), or view the news announcement in full.
