The new Denny District Community Group has organised a full festive event for the town, featuring:
- a parade starting at 11:30am, from Denny Town House to Stirling Street (roughly 30 minutes)
- Stirling Street will then be closed 12pm – 5pm for “market stalls, funfair, performances and festive fun”, including community carols, music performances, and Santa’s Grotto!
- the Christmas lights switch-on, with special guest George Talbot, Strathcarron Hospice fundraiser
George is fundraising for Strathcarron Hospice with a motorbike journey across Australia shortly after the event, in memory of his wife Gaynor, who was cared for by the hospice in her last days. George aims to raise £428,000 (the equivalent of 22 days of Strathcarron’s running costs, which is how long the team cared for Gaynor).
The event aims to be “a full day of family spirit and togetherness”; the group has also organised a Giving Tree in the Denny Co-op, where people can donate gifts to ensure no child or adult goes without a gift this year. People are invited to take a tag from the tree, buy the gift requested or age appropriate item, and return it to the Co-op in time for Christmas.
