Social Enterprise Scotland is hosting an online event exploring how communities across Scotland are developing innovative approaches to childcare and family support, particularly in rural and low-population areas where access to services can be limited.

Taking place on Wednesday 9 September, 12pm – 1:30pm, via Zoom, “Community Spaces, Brighter Futures: Community-Led Solutions to Child Poverty and Childcare” will examine how village halls, community hubs and other local spaces can be used to provide affordable childcare and family support services. It will consider how community ownership, local partnerships and the flexible use of shared spaces can help create trusted services which support children, families and carers, while also helping parents access employment opportunities.

Participants will hear about practical examples, including the Work and Play Club model and pilot projects adopting the Single Care Model, which brings together adult and childcare services to create intergenerational opportunities, reduce social isolation, and deliver wider community benefits. The session will include opportunities for questions, discussion and the sharing of ideas and experiences, and will encourage attendees to think differently about what is possible in their own communities.
