Advice Direct Scotland, in collaboration with the Scottish Government, is hosting an ‘Ask and Act’ Conference, focused on preventing homelessness in Scotland and preparing for the rollout of the ‘Ask and Act’ duties under the Housing (Scotland) Act 2025.
Taking place on Friday 6 November 2026, this event will bring together leaders and practitioners from across housing, health, justice, and the third sector to explore a fundamental shift in approach – from responding to Homelessness after it happens, to working collectively to prevent it before crisis occurs.
The proposed ‘Ask and Act’ duties require public bodies to identify early signs of housing risk and take meaningful action. Supported by the Scottish Government’s Homelessness Prevention Pilot Fund, partnerships across Scotland are currently testing how these duties can be embedded into everyday practice.
The conference will showcase learning from 15 pilot projects, and through interactive workshops and discussions, participants will explore:
- Practical challenges in implementing early intervention approaches
- Solutions and innovations developed through pilot activity
- Best practice for embedding ‘Ask and Act’ into frontline services
- Approaches to scaling up prevention across systems
- Understanding and supporting groups most at risk of homelessness
Based at the University of Strathclyde, the conference costs £60 per person and is designed to encourage meaningful discussion, knowledge-sharing and valuable cross-sector networking.
