Male suicide is a public health crisis. In the UK, suicide remains one of the leading causes of death among men under 50. We urgently need to better understand what puts men at risk – and what we can do to provide better support.
Action on Male Suicide is a new charity dedicated to transforming how we understand and respond to male suicide. From October – December, they are hosting a series of free ‘National Conversations’ events to bring together research, lived experience and local knowledge to explore what puts men at risk of suicide and what needs to change.
Led by male suicide researcher, Dr Susie Bennett, the next event will take place on Monday 2 November, 10am – 5pm, based in Edinburgh at the Grassmarket (EH1 2QA). Open to all, the day will bring together the local community to share the latest male suicide research findings, spotlight local initiatives supporting men, and collectively explore how we can improve support for men experiencing suicidal distress.
The aim is not simply to share research, but to bring people together, learn from one another and build a clearer picture of what needs to happen next. The insights generated across the National Conversations will also help inform the future work and priorities of Action on Male Suicide, to book your free place, please visit the dedicated Eventbrite webpage (linked for your convenience).
