Employability Day 2024 takes place on Friday 13 September: Employability Day 2024 – ERSA | Working for better work
Celebrating its ninth year, Employability Day 2024 promises to be the most important one yet. Against the backdrop of social, political and economic changes, Friday 13 September, presents an opportunity for the whole sector to come together and showcase the impactful work that individuals and communities have achieved over the past few years.
As the theme for this year’s campaign is Employment Support for Every Citizen, we wanted to highlight the value of the third sector as supportive, diverse, and meaningful environment to start and develop a career within.
There are thousands of third sector employers across Scotland that employ many thousands more staff to deliver essential services to communities. Despite the current employment challenges that all sectors – including the third sector – are experiencing (i.e funding for employment opportunities, shorter term contracts, and meeting service delivery demands), we do believe that the third sector is an overwhelmingly inspiring, forward thinking, and meaningful sector to work n.
To find out what third sector staff think about working in the sector day-to-day – we asked them to share their thoughts with us at our recent Employability Forum. Check out what they have to say below!
“We improve lives, provide support and help communities – all of which is massively rewarding.”
“I have (almost) always worked for the third sector. I love knowing that my job is about making the world a better place.”
“Seeing others grow and succeed in their goals…my success is seeing others succeed.”
“The overall feeling of being able to help improve the health and social outcomes of vulnerable communities.”
“Passion to make a difference. Support inclusion and development. Support an area that has supported our family.”
“Encourage our young people development…watching young people, staff, and volunteer development.”
“Varied roles offering a wide range of transferable skills…Helping people find their strengths and helping people build a career with them.”
“Being involved in the local community…seeing the joy on the faces of those that we support.”
“Overcoming challenges and obstacles…no two days are the same.”
