Start A New Day (STAND) International provides short-term volunteering opportunities abroad for people who have experienced being socially or economically disadvantaged in Scotland.

Volunteers abroad are supported to assist in different opportunities, from renovation and construction work, camps for children and those with disabilities, to working with animals and environment work.

Places are also available for mentors. Mentors provide support and assistance to volunteers while they volunteer abroad, as well as additional support for 3 months upon return to Scotland.

Fully funded places are available for volunteers experiencing social or economic disadvantages; these opportunities are also open to those who can fund their own place. All volunteers are expected to do some fundraising towards the trip.

Six trips are planned for 2020:

two to Belarus (in July and September), open to young people aged 16 – 28 years old
four to Romania (in March, May, August and October), open to those aged 16 – 65 years old
