The Directorate for Children and Families has launched “Supporting Scotland’s Children: Core Knowledge and Values”, a new free online resource hosted by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).
The new resource replaces the former “Common Core of Skills, Knowledge & Understanding and Values for Scotland’s children’s workforce”, first published in 2012.
Created in partnership with the Scottish Government and key stakeholders, “Supporting Scotland’s Children” outlines the essential knowledge and values for everyone working or volunteering with children, young people, and families. It reflects key national priorities, including Getting It Right For Every Child (GIRFEC), The Promise, and UNCRC incorporation, and serves as a practical tool for induction, training, and ongoing learning.
The refreshed resource responds to significant developments since 2012, including The Promise’s call for a national values-based recruitment and workforce development framework. It reflects Scotland’s commitment to ensuring that all children grow up loved, safe and respected.
