The UK Government has launched a new initiative, working with mobile and internet providers across the UK to provide an increase in mobile data allowances for families with school aged children.
The initiative, part of “Get Help With Technology”, is available throughout the UK, and aims to support children and young people with remote learning during the COVID-19 lockdown restrictions.
Schools, trusts and local authorities can request mobile data increases for children and young people who meet all 3 of the following criteria:
- do not have fixed broadband at home
- cannot afford additional data for their devices
- are experiencing disruption to their face to face education
The following providers have pledged their support, with more expected to join:
- EE
- O2
- Sky Mobile
- SMARTY
- Tesco Mobile
- Three
- Virgin Mobile
- Vodafone
