Trading Standards Scotland is providing free call blocking devices to vulnerable individuals (including older people and adults with additional support needs) who are most at risk from scammers and rogue traders.

Due to the current isolation, lockdown measures and social distancing to combat COVID-19, the risk from scammers is higher. Many new COVID-19 related scams have emerged since lockdown and, as lockdown eases, unsolicited marketing calls will be on the rise. These calls are often a pre-curser to a face to face sales visit in the individual’s home.

In addition to the risk that they will be pressurised into purchasing products or services they may neither want nor need, there is a health risk associated with these sales visits, particularly to the elderly, from individuals entering their homes.

Please note that, given the current social distancing measures in place, Trading Standards cannot currently install the device. However, each unit comes with full instructions, along with a helpline number, where staff will be able to guide you through the process.
