Applications are now open for the Falkirk Suicide Prevention Fund 2023 (previously known as the “Choose Life” fund), for initiatives launching new services or expanding existing provisions.
Grants of up to £25,000 are available, to be used in a single year, or for one-off costs.
The fund is open to statutory bodies, third sector organisations and constituted community groups, for projects which support at least one of the following mental health and wellbeing priorities:
- suicide prevention
- self-harm prevention
- suicide awareness (encouraging others to understand and talk about suicide)
- postvention support (supporting people impacted by suicide)
In addition, projects must address at least one of Health Improvement Scotland’s 4 suicide risk factors (linked for your convenience):
- pressures within communities (including stigma, poor social cohesion, deprivation and lack of safety)
- pressures within Scottish society (including inappropriate reporting and representation of suicidal behaviour by the media)
- the quality of response from services (including insufficient focus on the prevention, identification and assessment of needs)
- pressures on individuals (including family breakdown, educational qualifications, insecurity of employment, and alcohol and substance use)
The fund’s ethos and aim aligns with Scottish Government’s 2022 – 2032 Suicide Prevention Strategy: “Creating Hope Together”.
