
Smoking and Mental Health: Understanding the IMPACT Training

FreeIMPACT provides knowledge and understanding around how smoking can affect the effectiveness of some mental health medications and is particularly useful for anyone who may support anyone with mental illness who may smoke.
Aimed at NHS, local authority and third sector staff and volunteers in the Forth Valley area who support people with mental health problems, this training aims to: equip workers who support people with lived experience of mental ill-health with the knowledge, skills and confidence to initiate a conversation about smoking, and to discuss options for supporting those who are ready to quit.
The IMPACT Training package includes: two 1-hour e-learning modules, followed by a 1-hour virtual training session on Microsoft Teams. The virtual training session will focus on:
- The effect of smoking on mental health medications
- Discussions about smoking and mental health
- Information on e-cigarettes
- Information of local services to help people stop smoking
There are currently two Virtual Training Dates which individuals can register for (the booking form has been linked below to the relevant date):
