SCCR “Feeling Connected” Session

Cyrenians Scottish Centre for Conflict Resolution (SCCR) is holding a range of free sessions for young people, their parents, carers and families, and those working to support them, throughout February, beginning next week:

  • “Understanding Anger” (for parents, carers and families) on Tuesday 1st February, 12pm – 12:45pm

This session is aimed at parents, carers and families who are looking to learn more about conflict resolution, and designed to help them understand their anger and that of the young people they care for.

The session streams live online, and is only 40 minutes long. After the session, parents, families and carers should be able to start thinking about how they can better control their own anger and how they can react to others’ anger in a way that stops an argument or situation getting out of control.

  • “Resilience: Bouncing Back” on Wednesday 2nd February, 12pm – 12:45pm

This session is aimed at parents, carers and families who are looking to learn more about conflict resolution, and focuses on “resilience” – the ability to recover quickly from difficulties, which can be applied to many situations.

This 40 minute online session created by will look at how “bouncing back” helps families recover from conflicts.

  • “Feeling Connected” on Thursday 3rd February, 12pm – 12:45pm

This session explores family relationships for professionals, practitioners and volunteers who work with young people and families.

Following the session, attendees should be able to demonstrate a better understanding of what connectedness means in relationships, and use their learning to help parents, carers and families’ knowledge and skills to improve relationships and stop conflict.

  • “Understanding Anger” (for young people) on Tuesday 15th February, 12pm – 12:45pm

This session is designed especially for young people aged 16 – 25 years old, which shares ideas on how to react when they or someone close to them starts to get angry.

After the session, young people should be able to start to think about how they can control their anger and how to calm down an argument or situation before it gets out of control.

  • “Conflict Response Styles” on Wednesday 16th February, 2pm – 2:40pm

This session is designed to help young people aged 16 – 25 years old understand their reaction to conflict, especially conflict with parents and carers. Afterwards, young people should be able to recognise different ways people respond to conflict.
