Engaging in Effective Community Advocacy Online Workshop

February 1, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Free

On Wednesday 1st February, Voluntary Health Scotland (VHS) is hosting “Engaging in Effective Community Advocacy”, an online interactive workshop on community advocacy in public health and health inequalities.

Taking place via Teams, 10am – 12pm, the workshop will be led by Public Health Scotland (PHS) and aims to explore what engagement in advocacy means in a public health context, how this can mitigate health inequalities and what this means for attendees’ own role.

Attendees will be encouraged to consider a range of advocacy approaches to mitigating health inequalities for different kinds of communities. There will be a number of examples from third sector organisations, who will speak about their own use of community-based interventions to support people’s health and wellbeing.

Speakers include:

  • Stuart Brown, Physical Activity Co-ordinator and Sophie Bridger, Policy and Campaigns Manager, Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland
  • Ese Johnson, Development Manager for Minority Ethnic Health, Waverley Care
  • Elizabeth Rowlett, Partnership Integration Engagement Officer, Stirlingshire Voluntary Enterprise
  • Claire Stevens, Chief Executive, VHS
  • Moira Davies, Senior Learning and Development Officer, PHS

By the end of the session, attendees should have:

  • an improved understanding of how advocacy can mitigate the impact of health inequalities
  • more confidence about identifying and working with community and third sector advocates
  • ideas for developing their own community advocacy role

To book your place, or for further information, please visit the VHS website.
