Community Spaces Network Meeting

January 28 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Free

The next meeting of the Community Spaces Network takes place on Wednesday 28 January 2026, 10am – 11:30am, via Zoom.

“From Youth Clubs to Lifelong Roots: Community Spaces Shaping Rural Futures”

The Community Spaces Network is run in partnership by Social Enterprise Scotland and Scottish Rural Action, aiming to provide a dedicated space for anyone running village halls or community hubs to connect, share, and learn. This meeting looks at how village halls and community spaces can better support young people as they step into adulthood, and how rural and island communities across Scotland can help young people aged 18 years old and over “build belonging, skills, and brighter futures – right where they grew up”.

In recognition of the fact that many young adults often leave the rural and island communities they grew up in, speakers will explore:

  • intergenerational programmes
  • flexible, meaningful activities for young adult
  • how community hubs can spark confidence, connection, and long-term prospects

“Strengthening the link between youth experiences and adult life is key to rural resilience, repopulation, and sustainable growth – and your community space can play a vital role.”

Speakers will include:

  • Sheena Dowse, Strachur Youth Drama
  • Emilia Pietka-Nykaza, Senior Lecturer, University of the West of Scotland
  • Youth Researchers from Dumfries & Galloway: Hayley McGaw (Glenkens) and Korey Patterson (Thornhill)
