Just Enterprise is holding a free online workshop, Establishing a Trading Subsidiary, taking place on Monday 31 August 2026, 10:30am – 12pm, via Zoom.
“For social enterprises looking to diversify income and manage risk, establishing a trading subsidiary can be an effective way to undertake commercial activity whilst protecting and supporting the parent organisation.”
The workshop will explore the legal structures available, the process of setting up a trading subsidiary, and the practical considerations involved in making it work effectively. Participants will gain an understanding of governance arrangements, including the roles and responsibilities of directors and trustees, the relationship between the parent organisation and subsidiary, and how decisions, finances, and risks, are managed across both entities.
Establishing a Trading Subsidiary is aimed at social enterprises, charities, and community organisations considering new trading opportunities, or reviewing existing structures. It will also cover key legal, financial, and regulatory issues, aiming to help organisations understand whether a trading subsidiary is the right option for their long-term sustainability and growth.
This course is fully funded, with no charge to participants. Please note, Establishing a Trading Subsidiary is a follow-up to the Charitable Trading online workshop taking place on Monday 10 August 2026, 10:30am – 12pm, also via Zoom.
