All children aged 5 to 11 years old are now eligible for the first of 2 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, following clinical advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) which was issued on Wednesday 16th February.
Appointments are now being sent out to those with parental responsibility (beginning Saturday 19th March), with vaccination taking place in community clinics. Children in this age group with specific medical conditions that place them at greater risk from COVID-19 are already being vaccinated and will continue to be prioritised.
Information on the vaccination of children aged 5 – 11 years old is available on the NHS Inform website, and is being updated regularly, as are its COVID-19 pages.
Additionally, Public Health Scotland has developed a video which helps to explain what to expect at a child’s COVID-19 vaccine appointment, and is available to watch via their Youtube channel.
An information leaflet is also available to view or download as a pdf from the Health Scotland website.
Scottish Government has also produced an online toolkit (linked for your convenience) with key messages and assets around children’s vaccinations. Within the toolkit, there is editorial copy which can be used in organisation and groups’ own newsletters and social media.
