A new toolkit for refugee communities, refugee supporting groups, and community groups has been launched to help build stronger, more influential and effective community organisations.
Developed by Scottish Refugee Council and Scottish Community Development Centre (SCDC), the Building Stronger Community Organisations (BSCO) toolkit features in-depth guidance and advice around key issues for community organisations: Starting out; Governance; Engaging with the Community; Funding; Organisational Planning; Participating in Decisions; and Campaigning. It includes links to online presentations, downloadable templates, facilitation plans, and key resources throughout.
With a focus on supporting refugee communities and refugee supporting groups, Building Stronger Community Organisations will be useful for all types of community organisations.
Mick Doyle, Head of Programmes at SCDC, said:
“There are few groups more discriminated against than refugees and asylum seekers, so we are delighted to have co-created this toolkit with the SRC, with involvement from refugees themselves. The resource highlights how the refugee support movement greatly contributes to Scotland’s communities, by developing a tool organisations can use to gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence to tackle the issues that affect people’s lives.”
