The Friends of Charlotte Dundas is dedicated to honouring the local history of the Charlotte Dundas, “the world’s first practical steamboat”. This includes the Charlotte Dundas trail, which runs adjacent to the Helix Park and includes five heritage-themed seats celebrating the ship and those involved in its creation.
The objects of the Association are: a) To promote the advancement of knowledge about William Symington and the Charlotte Dundas and the dissemination of information about them. b) To promote and support the return of the model and its renovation, conservation and putting it on public display. c) To promote and support the erection of a suitable monument to William Symington and/or the Charlotte Dundas. d) To foster understanding and appreciation of the Charlotte Dundas’ industrial heritage throughout Scotland and beyond.
Further information is available via this Falkirk Herald article ahead of the trail’s launch, and the dedicated Charlotte Dundas Heritage Trail website.
