Public Health Reform “Delivering for Communities” Event
September 23, 2019 @ 9:30 am - 3:30 pm
The Public Health Reform Programme and the Council of Scottish Local Authorities (COSLA) are working in partnership to deliver the upcoming “Local Government and Public Health Reform: Delivering for Communities” event on Monday 23rd September.
The event takes place 9:30am – 3:30am at the COSLA Conference Centre, Verity House, 19 Haymarkets Yard, Edinburgh, EH12 5BH, and will be jointly chaired by Sally Loudon (CEO of COSLA) and Professor Jim McGoldrick (Shadow Chair of Public Health Scotland). There will also be contributions from senior leaders across local government, including the Improvement Service, academia and professional groups.
Public Health Reform is a collaboration between national and local Government, aiming to deliver 3 key actions:
- publish public health priorities for Scotland which contain important public health concerns, and that something can be done about
- establish a new national public health body for Scotland bringing together expertise from NHS Health Scotland, Health Protection Scotland and Information Services Division
- support different ways of working to develop a whole system approach to improve health and reduce health inequalities
Local government provide key services which have a direct impact on health and wellbeing, such as housing, planning, leisure, recreation and environmental health; all of these directly impact on the health of the population.
The event’s focus will be on developing and strengthening the contribution across the local governments and describing the future relationship with the emerging public health landscape, including Scotland’s new nation public health agency, Public Health Scotland.
Places are limited, and booking is essential.
