“It Takes All Kinds of Minds: Supporting Neurodivergent Children and Young People” Training Course

November 5, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm

£40

Salvesen Mindroom Centre has announced the next dates for its training courses on neurodiversity, taking place:

  • “Neurodiversity and Why It Matters” on Thursday 28th October, 3:30pm – 5pm via Teams (£25 per delegate)
  • “It Takes All Kinds of Minds: Supporting Neurodivergent Children and Young People” on Friday 29th October and Friday 5th November, 10am – 12:30pm via Teams (£40 per delegate)

The courses aim to explore how attendees can develop their understanding of neurodiversity, move towards an inclusive approach, and strengthen the support they offer to neurodivergent children and young people.

Both are introductory courses, with no prior knowledge of neurodiversity required, and are delivered by Aileen Shrimpton, Salvesen’s training manager, who is a qualified and experienced trainer with lived experience of neurodivergence.

  • “Neurodiversity and Why It Matters” on Thursday 28th October, 3:30pm – 5pm via Teams (£25 per delegate)

Neurodiversity refers to the natural variations in the human brain and encourages people to consider the strengths of those who think, feel, and experience the world differently. In this course, delegates will explore how neuroinclusive practice can help reduce stigma and promote acceptance of this form of human diversity.

Please note this session does not address the various neurodivergent conditions, and focuses on the concept of neurodiversity.

At the end of the course, delegates should have an improved understanding of:

  • what neurodiversity means
  • common terminology
  • disability, difference, and neurodiversity
  • the strengths that come from thinking differently
  • why neuroinclusive practice matters and where to start

  • “It Takes All Kinds of Minds: Supporting Neurodivergent Children and Young People” on Friday 29th October and Friday 5th November, 10am – 12:30pm (£40 per delegate)

This course aims to raise understanding of, and improve support for, neurodivergent children and young people who may experience learning difficulties.

Using 5 short films made in collaboration with children, young people, their families, and carers, delegates will explore how they can begin to take a more holistic, strengths-based approach to supporting young people with ADHD, Autism, Tourette’s Syndrome, Dyslexia and Development Co-ordination Disorder (Dyspraxia).

During this interactive training, delegates will be encouraged to expand their knowledge and understanding of neurodiversity, and reflect on how their practice can promote inclusion and acceptance.

At the end of the course, delegates should have an improved understanding of:

  • common neurodevelopmental conditions
  • the strengths and challenges associated with common neurodevelopmental conditions
  • ways to support neurodivergent children and young people

Everyone booking a place on this course will also receive an invitation to attend the “Neurodiversity and Why It Matters” webinar, after their booking has been received. Additionally, Salvesen will provide an electronic delegate pack, including the presentation.
