ENABLE Travel Training Programme Launch
January 17, 2023
FreeENABLE Scotland’s new travel training programme (in partnership with Smarter Choices, Smarter Places), ENABLE Travel, launches on Tuesday 17th January.
The training programme aims to help people, aged 16 years old and over, and who have a learning disability, to develop confidence and capability using public transport, supporting them to become an independent, sustainable traveller.
ENABLE Scotland has worked with their members to gather key information and help develop ENABLE Travel. Through their guidance, training has been developed in 5 key areas:
- Travelling Sustainably
- Travelling Independently
- Travelling Safely
- Travel Planning
- Travel Buddies and the ENABLE Me app
As part of the ENABLE Travel training, people will need to choose a travel buddy who will:
- help them plan their journey
- use the ENABLE Me travel app
- support them to become a confident, independent and sustainable traveller
The travel buddy can be anyone from their network – a family member, friend, personal assistant (PA), carer, or someone else they trust to help them travel.
People with learning disabilities can sign up for the training programme via the online Microsoft Form.
