It’s Volunteers’ Week: an annual celebration of the fantastic contribution volunteers make each day throughout our communities.
We’re kicking off this year’s Volunteer Spotlights with a feature on our own volunteer Sammy, who has been with us for 6 months. Sammy is keen to get back into work and so thought that volunteering was a good way to increase her skills and confidence. We created a bespoke role for Sammy around her family commitments and interests with Sammy focusing on specific admin activities in our office.
“It’s given me confidence, stability and pride in my work ethic. It makes me happy, and gives me a chance to be myself, to grow,” Sammy says.
“I’ve been made to feel like any other member of the team here, as if what I bring to the office is appreciated.”
“Sammy is a valued member of our team: she’s always smiling, which is really important when Sammy is the first person someone meets when arriving at our office. Sammy takes pride in everything she undertakes and is a great asset to our team,” says Victoria, Operations Manager at CVS Falkirk.
When asked what she would say to anyone thinking of volunteering, Sammy says, “Do it! It’s a great feeling, and you’re giving back to the community.”
