Step Forth are seeking a walk leader for their Polmont buggy walking group. As a volunteer you will have to be fit, Mums pushing Buggy’s are fast!
The walk takes place on a Monday at 12.15pm from Polmont Community Centre.
New mums often feel isolated and overwhelmed by the responsibility and challenges of looking after their new arrival and perhaps feels unable to cope. The mums meet once a week for a 40 minute walk, a Health Visitor also takes part in the walk and is able to answer any questions or worries that the mums may have.
After the walk, the group usually go back to a Health Centre or Playgroup for tea and a chat. The groups have been a lifeline to some of the mums; they have peer support from other mothers as well as being able to talk to their Health Visitor in a less sterile environment.
In 2010, Step Forth Buggy Groups were recognised by the British Heart Foundation and put in their good practice guide.
