The Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) is looking for a new Chair of the Board, and is holding an online information session for those interested in learning more, taking place on Monday 20 July 2026.

The Role

As Scotland’s charity regulator and registrar for the country’s 25,000 charities, OSCR works with charities, stakeholders and the public to regulate the charity sector in a way which builds trust and confidence. The Board sets the strategic direction and ensures effective governance.

The Chair plays a pivotal role in guiding OSCR’s strategic direction, ensuring it fulfils its statutory responsibilities and remains responsive to the needs of the sector. They will work closely with the Chief Executive and fellow Board members to ensure robust governance and accountability. They will also act as a key external representative for OSCR, engaging with stakeholders including government, the charity sector, Parliament and the public.

OSCR has highlighted that the role of Chair of the Board requires sound judgement, strong leadership, and the ability to balance support and challenge.

Please note that this is a volunteer role; however, due to the nature of the role, the Chair of the Board receives £308.64 remuneration per day. Additionally, expenses incurred as a result of carrying out the duties of the appointment (including reasonable travel and subsistence costs, and dependant carer expenses), will be reimbursed. The appointment is non-pensionable.

The appointment of Chair is for a period of four years. The time commitment is approximately five days per month (including preparation time at home, meetings, travel, engagements and development).

The information session will take place on Monday 20 July 2026, 12:30pm – 1:15pm, via Microsoft Teams. Attendees are invited to ask questions and learn more about the role of Chair of the Board.
