Our Virtual Falkirk Funders Fayre 2022 begins TOMORROW!
Ahead of this year’s event, we’ve been spotlighting the funders presenting during the week; today’s looks at two of our new funders, plus a Funders Fayre “regular”: The Clothworkers’ Foundation (new!), People’s Postcode Lottery (new!), and Foundation Scotland
These 3 funders work to help local people improve their community. We would urge people to book into their sessions to find out about how they can access these programmes, along with tips and recommendations on what they look for in applications.
The Clothworkers’ Foundation
The Clothworkers’ Foundation session takes place on Tuesday 8th March at 3pm, closing out our first day.
Background
The Clothworkers’ Foundation aims to improve the lives of people and communities (particularly those facing disadvantage, deprivation and/or discrimination) through grant-making. The Foundation was set up in 1977 to be the primary vehicle of charitable giving for The Clothworkers’ Company.
Since then, The Foundation has awarded more than £152 million in capital grants to charities registered in the UK or not-for-profit organisations working across the nine areas of priority defined in its Main and Small Grants programme (aka the Open Grants Programme).
While their Proactive Grants are currently closed to applications, the Open Grants Programme accepts applications from UK registered charities or not-for-profits and who meet the eligibility criteria, for funding towards large or small capital projects. The work of the organisation must fit within one or more of the Foundation’s specified programme areas:
- Buildings: purchase, construction, renovation or refurbishment.
- Fittings, Fixtures, and Equipment: this includes but is not limited to office equipment/furniture, sports/gym equipment, digital/audio visual equipment, garden equipment, specialist therapeutic (excluding medical) equipment. It does not include equipment for one-off use, or which will be given to service users for personal use on a permanent basis.
- Vehicles: This includes a minibus, car, caravan, people-carrier, or 4X4. We are unlikely to fund the total cost of a new vehicle and do not provide grants towards vehicle leasing.
How to Apply
To check your group’s eligibility, please visit the FAQ and exclusions page, or take their eligibility quiz. Alternatively, applications can be submitted online (linked for your convenience).
People’s Postcode Lottery
The People’s Postcode Lottery (PPL) session takes place on Wednesday 9th March at 3pm.
Background
The PPL is run by the People’s Postcode Trust, which has supported smaller charities and good causes in Scotland since 2018 to make a difference to their community, for the benefit of people and planet.
People’s Postcode Trust achieves its objectives through funds received from its society lottery, operated by its External Lottery Manager, Postcode Lottery Ltd (marketed as PPL). The Trust operates its own society lottery and receives all of its funding from players of People’s Postcode Lottery.
Their website is full of information on their activities and previous awards, including guides on how to acknowledge a grant from the PPL, and support around press releases.
How to Apply
In 2022 funding rounds will open each month from February to October. The application form will appear on their website ahead of each funding round; the next round will open on .
A limited number of applications will be accepted each month, in line with the amount of funds available for that round. If this limit is not reached, the round will close on the 10th of each month. Rounds will open at the start of each month but may close quickly.
Foundation Scotland
Foundation Scotland kicks off our final day, with their session taking place on 11am on Thursday 10th March.
Background
Foundation Scotland is a regular presence at our in-person Funders Fayres, and across the wider Falkirk areas in general, with the Denny and District Community Fund, the EDF Renewables Burnhead Moss Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund (Limerigg & Slamannan), the EDF Renewables Burnhead Moss Wind Farm Community Fund (Avonbridge and Standburn), and the EDF Renewables Burnhead Moss Education & Training (BMET) Fund (available for those living in the 4 Burnhead Moss areas); they also manage the Todhill Wind Farm Community Fund (Larbert, Stenhousemuir & Torwood).
The Foundation’s vision is of “confident, thriving, resilient communities across Scotland”. They aim to help people and organisations fund good causes, strengthening Scotland’s communities and creating a lasting impact, by providing the resources to shape their future. Since 1996, the Foundation has helped distribute more than £130 million to charities and community groups through their funding programmes.
How to Apply
Foundation Scotland has a diverse range of funding programmes designed to benefit communities across Scotland, with donors representing a broad spectrum of aims and wishes; as a result, the funds available range in size, intent and purpose.
Some funds are available on a Scotland-wide basis, and others are aimed at specific geographical areas or themes. You’ll find grant size and criteria information on each fund’s page, together with any unique criteria. Also, every fund lists a deadline for applications, and there may be more than one round of funding each year. When searching, be sure to note all the key dates in the fund listing, so you don’t miss out.
To apply, or for further information, please visit the Foundation Scotland website. Alternatively, view the list of Falkirk area funds they manage.
