1st Step Bikes are a charity offering many different types of recovery-orientated activities and community services across West Lothian and Falkirk. They are working towards communities that make addiction recovery real which means challenging stigma, supporting people to see their own strengths, and creating opportunities for them to rebuild social connections and find purpose and fulfilment in their local communities. 1st Step Bikes’ team of highly skilled bike mechanics and volunteers deliver supported training courses, especially for people affected by addiction or poor mental health, and repair bikes for resale or re-donation to good causes – all focused on “building recovery, one bike at a time”.
They are currently recruiting for a Senior Training Bike Mechanic to provide solid support to their growing team of volunteers that enable the social enterprise to thrive. Working 14 hours per week, including regular Saturday working, this post offers a salary of £24,150 (pro-rata). Applications must be submitted before midday on 12 January 2025.
Within this role, you will be responsible for developing a new volunteer team to take forward a regular Saturday 1st Step community bike maintenance and repair club based at the Howgate in Falkirk. This will be an inclusive environment where adults and families will learn basic repair skills and also bring in their own bikes to learn to fix them up safely – with the aim to help more people have the confidence to get back out on their bikes with their families.
If you think you have what it takes to inspire people about bikes and cycling, and use this to bring out the best in them, and also the organisation and communication skills to work with a wide range of people, then they would like to hear from you!
