In addition to their previously featured courses, the Adult Support and Protection team has organised the following training courses:
- Level 2B – Recognition and Response Training
Training takes place Tuesday 22nd October, Friday 15th November, Tuesday 10th December, with all dates running 9:15am – 3pm at Rossvail, 108A Glasgow Road, Camelon, FK1 4HS.
The course aims to assist multiagency staff develop awareness of Adult Support and Protection (ASP) issues (specifically to recognise, report and record actual or suspected issues of harm), while raising awareness of council and Forth Valley operational policies, procedures and guidance in relation to the protection of adult at risk.
By the end of the training, attendees should be aware of:
- the legislation – what is intended to achieve and the powers available
- how it may affect their work
- their responsibilities and procedures
- clarity of their role as a supervisor
The course is open to supervisors of social workers and residential or day care staff, along with a range of main grade staff (please download the booking form for further information).

- one-day Council Officer Refresher Training
Taking place on Tuesday 19th November, 9:15am – 4:30pm at the Camelon Community Education Centre, Abercrombie Street, Camelon, FK1 4HA, the course offers participants the opportunity to:
- revisit, refresh and where necessary update their knowledge of the Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007
- revisit, refresh and where necessary update their understanding of the role and responsibilities of Council Officers
- revisit, refresh and update awareness of operational procedures
- revisit, refresh and update understanding of practice implications
The course is aimed at those who have previously completed Council Officer training more than 2 – 3 years ago, and Council Officers who have had little or no opportunities to practice in this role since completing their training. There may be opportunity to open the training to other staff; however, this will depend on booking numbers.

- Financial Harm Training
The half-day course takes place on Wednesday 27th November, 9:15am – 1pm at the Camelon Community Education Centre, Abercrombie Street, Camelon, FK1 4HA.
The course aims to assist multiagency staff in developing awareness of financial harm and the potential impact this may have on adults at risk (including a focus on older adults), and specifically to recognise where there is or may be a risk of financial harm or exploitation, and reinforce the need to report and record actual or suspected issues of financial harm or financial irregularities.
As a result of attending the Financial Harm Training, participants should be aware of:
- the legislative background
- definitions
- the diversity of financial harm
- the national and local contexts
- the impact financial harm can have
- prevention and protection
In addition to key staff from third sector organisations and providers, the training is aimed at:
- council and community care workers
- home care and mec staff
- residential and day care managers and staff
- NHS district, community and nursing staff
- staff dealing with people in their own homes
