Safer Internet Day (SID) is celebrated globally in February each year to empower children and young people to use technology responsibly, respectfully, critically and creatively. SID is celebrated in over 140 countries worldwide, and last year’s UK campaign (co-ordinated by the UK Safer Internet Centre) reached 45% of children (aged 8 – 17 years) and 30% of parents in the UK. There were over 800,00 downloads of free SID educational resources and half a million views of SID video content.
This year, the Centre aims to make Safer Internet Day 2019 on Tuesday 5th February even bigger
The planning event will offer attendees the opportunity to hear from the UK Safer Internet Centre about the SID 2019 campaign, along with the chance to network and share ideas and plans.
There will also be a tour of the BBC Own It site, a flagship online wellbeing platform for children, teens and young people; the tour will be led by Dave Howard, head of the BBC Own It Glasgow team, who will also talk about the BBC’s plans for SID 2019.
