Recyke-a-bike believes in the transformative power of cycling, and since 2005 has worked to relieve poverty, improve health, promote education, and protect the environment within communities – all through bicycles. Beyond their bike shop, they have a series of projects aiming to make cycling more accessible and inclusive:
- InspiRideis their employment, training and wellness programme for people aged 16 years old and over who are not in training, education or employment. Running over 6 weeks from Monday – Thursday, the next two courses will start on Monday 17 February and Monday 21 April, with spaces available on both courses. InspiRide includes tailored employability support, bike riding and route planning, bike mechanic skills (including building a bike participants get to keep at the end of their course), volunteering, mountain biking, and wellness support.
- Free to Access Bike Library, which allows rentals for 4 weeks and is open to anyone aged 18 years old and over, with electric bikes, trikes, and cargo/family bikes, as well as standard bikes. Collections are on a Friday, and can be booked free of charge via the dedicated page.
- Volunteering:Recyke-a-bike has volunteer spaces available on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday within their workshop. Tasks include stripping bikes for parts, building bikes to be sold in the shop or go into the free bikes projects, and organising the workshop.
