Canine Partners is looking for Puppy Parent volunteers in Falkirk to foster future assistance dogs for people with physical disabilities.
Canine Partners partner people with assistance dogs, who help increase independence and quality of life.
Puppy Parent volunteers are placed with an 8 week old puppy, who will live with them at home until they are around 14 months; this means the commitment is for approximately one year. Volunteers will provide a safe environment and help puppies with their social interaction skills and basic training.
Volunteers are supported throughout the process by Canine Partners, who provide:
- a Canine Partners Volunteer T-shirt to signal to the public that the puppy is a working dog in training
- a Puppy Parent volunteer handbook
- access to puppy classes and group training sessions (subject to availability in the local area)
- one to one support
- peer support through other Puppy Parent volunteers who live nearby
The aim is to provide these puppies with a safe and loving environment, where they can develop their own confidence to go on to Advanced Training and become an assistance dog.
All the puppy’s food and vet bills will be covered by Canine Partners while living with their Puppy Parent volunteer.
