The Scottish Parliament is designed to represent everyone in Scotland; however, they are aware that some people are currently more likely to become involved in their work than others.
They are looking to speak to people from across Scotland, in order to understand how to make it easier for people to work with them, and have launched an online, multiple choice survey to gather people’s thoughts, ideas and suggestions.
They are keen to listen to people’s experiences and ideas, which will be used to help shape and inform how and what they do next to help ensure the Scottish Parliament reaches and involves a more diverse range of people in its work.
Their closing statement on the survey reads:
“We will produce information which sets out what we have learned from the shorter survey and the more detailed consultation.
We will share this publicly. We will also share it with people working in the Scottish Parliament so they can understand what makes it easier/harder for people from different communities to share their views with us.
We will then think carefully about the changes that we need to make.
Our starting point will always be what people need, not what we think they need.
We will be open to listening, learning and making changes, including where that challenges our current thinking.
We will also innovate and experiment with new ways of working. In all that we do, we’ll try to bring communities with us – consulting them and involving them in any changes we might make.”
The survey is anonymous and will take around 10 minutes to complete. Languages currently available are English, Gaelic and British Sign Language (BSL). Scottish Parliament is also producing translations of the survey in Polish, Urdu and Punjabi, and is happy to translate into any other languages on request.
