Prevent is one of the 4 elements of CONTEST, the Government’s counter-terrorism strategy, focusing on safeguarding people and communities from the threat of terrorism. Prevent aims to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism.
A new e-learning package has been developed around Prevent, with different modules available to suit different needs.
The Prevent element covers all forms of terrorism and relies on partnership working with key partners and community organisations, who work together to support people at risk of being drawn into terrorist activity.
According to its strategy, Prevent:
- responds to the ideological challenge we face from terrorism and extremism, and the threat we face from those who promote these views
- provides practical help to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism and ensure they are given advice and support
- works with a wide range of sectors where there are risks of radicalisation that we need to deal with
