The Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) has produced an online 5 minute video about the Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO).
SCIOs are a legal form unique to Scottish charities. They are able to enter into contracts, employ staff, incur debts, own property, sue and be sued. This legal form also provides a high degree of protection against liability.
The video answers frequently asked questions on SCIOs, including:
- what a SCIO is
- what makes a SCIO different from other legal forms
- the advantages of being a SCIO
- what are a SCIO duties
- whether or not becoming a SCIO is right for your organisation
