Older People’s Day 2018: The Highlights!

Posted on October 2, 2018

Our Older People’s Day event is over for another year, and what an incredible whirlwind of a day it was!

Attendees at the event were able to meet with almost 50 stallholders and activities from local and national organisations, making it our biggest Older People’s Day event yet.  While at the event, they received a free Taggle-Me anti-theft strap, along with a free Solicitors for Older People Scotland jute bag full of useful literature and goodies, and were able to book appointments like home fire safety visits with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and free hearing checks with Action on Hearing Loss Scotland.

There was also the opportunity to speak with Police Scotland and Falkirk Council’s Adult Support and Protection team, both members of the Forth Valley Financial Harm group.  Police Scotland also brought their fake ATM, highlighting the methods criminals use in ATM fraud and other scams.

Attendees were also able to take part in a laughter yoga presentation from Live, Laugh, Breathe!, and hear presentations from different organisations, including:

  • Solicitors for Older People Scotland
  • Home Energy Scotland

Falkirk Provost William Buchanan also stopped into the event, after meeting with Princess Anne at Strathcarron Hospice.  He was delighted to be able to attend the event, and described it as “really beneficial”.

“Although I know a lot of groups in the room, I’m really impressed with the diversity and variety today.  I think I spoke to everyone – I only expected to be about 15 minutes, but it’s been nearly 2 hours!”

“I’ve really enjoyed it, and it’s important, because it shows what’s available – because there is so much in Falkirk, but not everyone has access to the internet to find out about it.”

Other attendees said:

  • “It’s been brilliant.”
  • “Great event, good for myself and my mother.”
  • “Been really useful.”
  • “Very satisfied and very happy.”
  • “Wonderful, nothing left out.  Enjoyed it!”
  • “Glad to see these things happen.”
  • “Staff been so friendly and helpful.  Well done CVS Falkirk!”

We at CVS Falkirk want to say a big thank you to everyone who came today, all our fantastic stallholders, our team, and most importantly, every single attendee who walked through the door. We hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did, and we look forward to seeing you all again next year!
