Older People’s Day 2018: New Stallholders Announced

Posted on September 14, 2018

With just over 2 WEEKS to go till Older People’s Day 2018 on Tuesday 2nd October, we can confirm even more new stallholders for the event, taking place 10am – 3pm at Falkirk Town Hall.

U3A Falkirk brings together people to develop their interests and continue their learning in a friendly and informal environment, after they have finished working full-time or raising their family and have time to pursue interests or just try something new. Members draw upon their knowledge and experience to teach and learn from each other across different activity groups.

Forth Valley Independent Living Association (FVILA) and Self-Directed Support Forth Valley provide free help and assistance to individuals and carers with a Social Services or NHS-based “assessed need” for care and support across Forth Valley.

Move It or Lose It’s Falkirk group is based around helping older people improve their flexibility, aerobic health, balance and strength, and all exercises can be done seated or standing.

Our partners from Solicitors for Older People Scotland will be giving a presentation on their services for older people and Power of Attorney, along with Home Energy Scotland, and a demonstration on laughter yoga from Live, Laugh, Breathe!.

Action on Hearing Loss will also be taking bookings for their next free hearing checks in Falkirk, while Police Scotland will have their fake ATM at their stall, and new attendees Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) Scotland will be bringing along details of their services, along with a lovely guide dog!

British Sign Language (BSL) interpreters will also be available at the event 12pm – 2pm.

More organisations will be announced in the run-up to the event. Don’t forget, you can follow all our Older People’s Day 2018 updates and activities on the new OPD Falkirk website.

We encourage everyone who would like to come along on the day to book their place via the Eventbrite page, to ensure they have the chance to see the presentations and activities which interest them.

There’s also still time to contribute to our Older Human Rights Champions project and tell us about the people you know who have worked for an upheld human rights in Falkirk!  We will then display them at the event, celebrating and promoting everything older people have done to help make the lives of others better.

To submit your stories, or for further information on how to request a stall for your third or public sector organisation, please contact Laura Jamieson by phone: 01324 692003, or email: laura@cvsfalkirk.org.uk
