Scottish Government has announced a new Redress Scheme for survivors of historic child abuse in care in Scotland, with applications to the scheme due to open in December.
The Redress, Relations and Response Division, which is carrying out this work, has been inviting organisations who provided care services in Scotland at, or before December 2004, to participate in the scheme, as part of a collective approach to address the harms of the past.
Discussions are at an advanced stage with many organisations; however, they want to ensure that all organisations who may want to participate have the opportunity to do so.
The division is aware that deciding to be a part of the scheme is something that relevant organisations need to consider carefully and thoroughly, and that, for many, acknowledging past failures while managing today’s difficult financial circumstances presents many challenges.
The division is available to help all organisations come to a decision on their participation, and would welcome the opportunity to discuss the scheme at a time that suits, if an organisation considers the scheme relevant to them.
