Falkirk Council’s Community Growing team is offering small grants, £50 – £500, to help communities buy eco-friendly seeds, plants, soil, peat-free compost and garden tools and gloves, to grow community gardens (whether for flowers, or fruit and vegetables).
The grant aims to help reduce the cost of eco-friendly gardens and growing spaces, to the benefit of communities across the Falkirk District, along with wildlife and the climate.
What does eco-friendly mean here?
Falkirk Council will only fund resources that do not damage wild places (in the Falkirk Council area or beyond). Examples of resources they will fund include:
- Peat-free compost, which must say it is peat-free; multipurpose composts may still contain peat.
- Organic vegetable seeds and plants (as no chemicals are used to produce them, meaning there is less environmental damage done where they are grown).
- Peat-free plants; Falkirk Council has provided a link to the Peat-Free Nurseries List of UK suppliers.
- FSC-certified timber products.
- Reusable products or items made out of recycled material.
The deadline for applications is Wednesday 22nd February. All eligibility information is available in the guidance document (linked to view or download for your convenience).
