The Stroke Association and Active Stirling have launched the Moving Forward After Stroke programme, a FREE 12 week programme delivered by specialist instructors at Forthbank Performance Sports Centre within the Stirling Sports Village at Springkerse, Stirling, FK7 7UJ.
The programme is open to those in the Falkirk area, and has been designed using the latest evidence on the benefits of exercise after stroke. Each instructor has gone through a Level 4 Exercise and Fitness after Stroke training qualification.
The sessions follow a structured format and include mobility, cardiovascular endurance, strength and flexibility components. All exercises are adaptable and will be tailored to the individual, who will also receive health education sessions and support to help them make lifestyle changes.
The programme is designed to reduce the risk of secondary stroke and improve physical fitness and function.
During this pilot period, the programmes need a minimum number per class, and multiple sessions can be run at once. The Stroke Association and Active Stirling aim to make this a permanent step within the stroke pathway.
Individuals can be referred by their GP, or health professional they have contact with, simply by taking the referral form to them and asking to be referred.
