Ministerial Visit to Falkirk Older People’s Network

Posted on November 19, 2019

Last month, Christina McKelvie MSP, Minister for Older People and Equalities, met with members of the Falkirk Older People’s Network at their quarterly meeting at the CVS Falkirk offices, where she provided an interesting and informative presentation on Scottish Government’s new framework and action plan, “A Fairer Scotland for Older People”.

The Minister outlined the government’s commitment to improve services for older people and the progress in implementing the findings, and emphasised her excitement at being involved in the work.

Ms McKelvie said: “The focus of our action plan is keeping people connected to their communities, but it’s also about reversing negative stereotypes around ageing, and taking into account the real value of our older generation.

“By working together, and with the help of organisations such as Falkirk’s Older People’s Network, we can make a difference to the lives of older people in Scotland.”

The Minister then responded to a number of questions from Network members, with discussion touching on the different needs of older people across different age ranges and the variety and importance of intergenerational projects.

Jen Kerr, CEO of CVS Falkirk, commented:  “It was fantastic to have the Minister here and see her positivity and enthusiasm for the framework. Our team at CVS Falkirk looks forward to working with the Network on their related projects.”

David Paterson, Chair of the Falkirk Older People’s Network, said:  “We want to thank the Minister for taking the time from her busy schedule to attend today’s meeting.  Our members found the discussion, and Ms McKelvie’s approach, incredibly refreshing and positive.  The atmosphere continued throughout our meeting, and we know will extend to the rest of our work as we return to our organisations throughout Falkirk.”
