Staff and volunteers across Falkirk are being encouraged to take advantage of free Mental Health First Aid Training 2024/25 sessions, organised by Falkirk Health and Social Care Partnership, to support them in their role.
Mental Health First Aid offers information about mental health problems. The knowledge presented and understanding developed in the course helps to remove stigma and fear and to give confidence in approaching a person in distress.
Mental Health First Aid is an initial response to distress, and it is explained to all participants that this help is given only until other suitable or professional help can be found. Participants develop skills in asking appropriate questions, listening without judgment and giving guidance about where help can be found.
The aims of mental health first aid are to:
- preserve life
- provide initial help to prevent the problem or crisis becoming more serious
- provide comfort to a person experiencing distress
- promote recovery of good mental health
- promote understanding of mental health issues
