At the end of November, significant amendments to how previous criminal records are disclosed in recruitment will come into force.
The implementation of the Management of Offenders (Scotland) Act significantly shortens the periods required for disclosure, aiming to allow smoother access to employment for the one in 5 people across Scotland with previous convictions.
These changes will reduce the time periods employers are able to ask about previous convictions, and should benefit those recruiting by allowing them to make timely and efficient recruitment decisions to benefit their business.
It is estimated that these changes will remove upwards of 200,000 minor or historic convictions from mainstream employment.
There will be a series of online events providing information on the changes, including:
- local employer information session on Tuesday 24th November, 9:30am, – 11am with Camelon Connect and Recruit With Conviction
The session will cover the changes to disclosure legislation, and feature guest speakers, plus information from Cyrenians’ Camelon Connect team on how they can help local employers and organisations with any questions or support around these changes.
