London North Eastern Railway (LNER) is consulting on a number of changes to their Scottish services, which would affect the Falkirk Grahamston station.
Proposed changes would include removing the 5:47am southbound departure from Falkirk Grahamston, and the 7:58pm northbound arrival, in order to provide a more sustainable and reliable service.
This plan is the result of proposals to remove the Stirling to Edinburgh portion of the 5:34am Stirling to King’s Cross service, and the Edinburgh to Stirling portion of the London King’s Cross to Stirling service, which arrives in Falkirk Grahamston station at 7:58pm, and in Stirling at 8:12pm.
However, both Falkirk Grahamston and Stirling would continue to be served by LNER’s daily Inverness service, which calls at Falkirk Grahamston at 10:48am southbound and 5:03pm northbound, and at Stirling at 10:34am southbound and 5:19pm northbound.
The LNER early-morning and evening services from and to Falkirk Grahamston and Stirling were added in 2015 under Virgin Trains East Coast. The proposal to remove some direct services is designed to reflect the changes LNER has seen regarding travel patterns in recent years, with more customers choosing to travel for leisure than business.
The trains would still operate south of Edinburgh, and alternative connections (from both LNER and other providers) are available to provide cross-border journey opportunities at more popular times. In addition, LNER’s daily return Highland Chieftain service (running between Inverness and London) will still call at Falkirk Grahamston and Stirling.
The proposed changes are not yet confirmed and are subject to an 8 week consultation period; the deadline for responses is Monday 18th March.
Responses should be submitted:
- by email: timetablechanges@lner.co.uk
- by post: LNER Freepost, RTUH-TUGH-GCLZ, Cramlington, NE23 1WG
Anyone who would like to meet with a member of LNER’s senior management team on this proposal, should contact the team by email: publicaffairs@lner.co.uk
After the consultation closes, LNER will review all feedback and share a report with those who have submitted a consultation response.
