Homecare Day 2022 takes place on Thursday 22nd September, and the Partners for Integration team, along with Scottish Care, will be marking the day by lighting up buildings across Scotland in yellow to give thanks to the homecare workforce – including the Falkirk Wheel.
The event, which mainly takes place online, looks to celebrate, acknowledge and recognise the homecare services across the UK. This year’s theme is “Homecare Voices”, aiming to:
- listen to the voices of care at home and house supporting staff, providers, managers, service users and relatives
- showcase the expertise of the homecare workforce, and their value
- highlight how homecare plays a crucial role in the health and social care system and within their communities
As part of Homecare Day, “Light Up for Carers” is an initiative supported by Scottish Government, Scottish Parliament and the Care Inspectorate. Notable buildings across Scotland, including the Falkirk Wheel, will be lit up in the colour yellow, which was chosen to symbolise the flame of a candle (much like Scottish Care’s “Candle for Care” Twitter campaign.
According to Scottish Care:
“The homecare sector shows us caring, resilience and compassion at its best. Yet this workforce is often undervalued and not recognised. This workforce deserves recognition for their dedication and professionalism every day of the week, regardless of weather, risk or fear.
This is the perfect opportunity to acknowledge the homecare workforce, and we encourage care at home workers to join the celebration at these buildings on the evening of Thursday 22nd September.”
