NHS Forth Valley are running a programme around the Healthy Start scheme, which entitles qualifying pregnant women and parents with children under 4 years old access to vouchers to help purchase fruit, vegetables and milk.
Pregnant women and children over 12 months and under 4 years old receive one £3.10 voucher per week, while children under one year old receive 2 £3.10 vouchers (£6.20) per week.
Parents are also entitled to vitamin drops for their children, and pregnant women are entitled to free maternal vitamin tablets regardless of their income level.
The vouchers can be spent on:
- plain cow’s milk (whole, semi-skimmed or skimmed), which can be pasteurised, sterilised, long life or UHT
- plain fresh or frozen fruit and veg (fruit and vegetables with no added ingredients), whole or chopped, packaged or loose
- infant formula milk which states it can be used from birth and is based on cow’s milk
The application form must be signed by a health professional (such as a midwife or health visitor).
